Unexpected visits these days.
In early 2021, I faced civil war. I was born in Myanmar (Burma) and lived during a civil war when the military regime ruling the country created a culture of fear. This year, thousands of people—artists, protesters, civilians who opposed the junta—have been killed and arrested at nonviolence protests. Before I left the country, I had been hiding and displaced from my studio because I was a photography trainer and was in contact with citizen journalists. I would like to talk about my exile and the reason for it, as well as the culture of fear and all the strategies that I had to use to protect myself and others, including hiding my identity.
